About Me

Play-by-Play Broadcaster, Multi-Media Journalist

Hi, I am Riley Trapp, a dedicated sports broadcaster bringing play-by-play action to life at every level: from high school to NCAA games in the SEC, and multiple summer collegiate wood-bat leagues such as the Prospect and Coastal Plain Leagues. I began in my hometown of Barrington, Illinois, where I covered athletic events for BHS-TV, an award-winning television program at Barrington High School. During that time, I earned multiple nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Midwest Media Educators Association.

Following high school, I pursued my passion at the University of Missouri's renowned School of Journalism. At Mizzou, I joined KCOU 88.1 FM–the student voice of the Missouri Tigers–where I provided PxP coverage of SEC athletics across multiple sports. This role allowed me to call several AP Top 25 matchups and travel the country, gaining firsthand experience at some of college sports' most iconic venues, including Rupp Arena in Lexington and Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.

During my time at Mizzou, I immersed myself in emerging forms of media. I gained hands-on newsroom experience as a producer and reporter for KOMU 8 News in Columbia [See Here]–the only university-owned and operated network affiliate in the nation. Additionally, I completed a drone journalism course and earned my FAA Part 107-B certification as a licensed Commercial Drone Pilot.

Beyond the classroom, I became actively involved in campus organizations, including the Mizzou Digital Marketing Team and the Iota Mu chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. In both, I stepped into leadership roles. As the Treasurer of the MDMC executive board, I helped secure university funding that enabled our team to travel to Baylor University twice to compete in the National Collegiate Digital Marketing Championships, among other responsibilities.

My baseball broadcasting career began with the Burlington Bees of the Prospect League, where I served as a Broadcaster and Media Relations Assistant. Alongside my broadcast partner, Kyle Schmidt, I called over 70 games during the 2023 season. In collaboration with management, we implemented the first radio-broadcasting system for road games since the team's transition out of the Midwest League (High A) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I then advanced my career as the Play-by-Play voice of the Martinsville Mustangs in the prestigious Coastal Plain League. Throughout two seasons, I have been on the air for 95 games, both at home on FloSports TV and on the road via Mustangs Radio. Following my first season, I was honored as the CPL's 2024 Broadcaster of the Year–the first time a Mustang broadcaster received this recognition. During my second season, I advanced into the role of Broadcast Director and led our crew each day en route to earning the CPL's 2025 Broadcast Stream of the Year–again marking the first time Martinsville received the award.

As my second season with the Martinsville Mustangs concludes, I also celebrate graduating from the University of Missouri in May 2025 with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. I am excited to continue pursuing my lifelong passion for broadcasting baseball at the professional level.
